The ferret’s body coils low and tight, every muscle focused on the bird’s throat as the two roll through straw and dirt. Finally, the rooster rallies, slamming its attacker against a wooden post in a desperate burst of strength. The ferret loosens its grip for a fraction of a second, enough for the bird to wrench free and stagger away, chest heaving, feathers shredded.
