Most People Are Narcissists… Count the Squares

At first glance, this puzzle looks simple enough: count every square you can see and give the answer. Many people immediately focus on the obvious large boxes and rush to respond, believing they solved it in seconds. But like many visual puzzles, the trick is that the smaller squares combine to form larger ones.

The image contains several small squares, medium squares, and larger squares created by shared lines. If someone counts only the separate visible boxes, they will miss the overlapping combinations. That is why answers often differ so much, even when everyone is looking at the same puzzle.

The correct way to solve it is to count each complete square by size. First, count the smallest individual squares. Then look for squares made by combining four smaller sections, followed by the larger squares formed by the outer borders and internal lines. Every complete square counts, even if it shares sides with another one.

The answer most commonly accepted for this puzzle is 11 squares. The challenge is not about intelligence or personality, and it certainly does not prove whether someone is a narcissist. It simply tests patience, observation, and whether a person takes time to look beyond the first obvious shapes.

In the end, puzzles like this are fun because they make people pause, compare answers, and realize how easily the eyes can miss details. The real lesson is not about labels or personality—it is about slowing down long enough to see the full picture.
