Trump faces backlash from religious right after posting AI image of himself as ‘Jesus’

He thought it would project strength and authority. Instead, it created division among his own supporters and sparked an unexpected wave of criticism.

When Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image portraying himself in robes resembling those of Jesus Christ, “healing” a frail man beneath patriotic imagery, reactions were immediate and intense.

At first glance, the image seemed designed to inspire admiration, blending faith, power, and nationalism into a single dramatic scene. But for many viewers, especially Christian supporters, it crossed a line.

Criticism came quickly from those who might otherwise defend him. Words like “blasphemous,” “disrespectful,” and “unacceptable” appeared across comment sections, signaling discomfort rather than support.

For these critics, the issue was not political—it was spiritual. The use of sacred imagery in a self-promotional context felt inappropriate, even offensive, regardless of intent.

Others, however, defended the image as symbolic or artistic expression, arguing that it represented strength, leadership, or a form of cultural messaging rather than a literal comparison.

The backlash revealed a deeper tension between politics and religion. While the two often overlap in public discourse, moments like this highlight how easily that boundary can be strained.

In the end, the image did more than attract attention. It exposed divisions within a loyal base, showing that even strong support has limits when deeply held beliefs are challenged.
